Cambodia Casinos

[ English ]

There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the border from next door Thailand, where gambling hall gambling is illegal. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent location, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, funding sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 17:00, and though visas are allegedly necessary to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship casino, features 150 slot machine games and 60 tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel building that highlights a number of conveniences aside from the gambling hall, which contains ten thousand square feet of 130 one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.
